Instant IMAP Checker for MAC OS X

In the past I have used FastCheck to be almost instantly notified of new mail in my FastMail mailbox. That was when I had a system running Windows XP. Now I have a system running Max OS X Tiger and I would like to find a program that does the same thing as FastCheck. The closest thing I have found so far is called, "eCheck" and only checks IMAP in user-defined intervals, not continously as with FastCheck.

Does anybody know of a FastCheck like program for MAC OS X?

The FastCheck I'm using has user-defined intervals (4 min, 5 min). What version are you using?

I'm running MAC OS X and Fastcheck is for Windows. So can't use FastCheck. That is why I am looking for an alternative that runs on the MAC OS.

Yes, I am using Windows as well (at work, no choice). There is no dedicated connection, unless there is a newer version of which I am unaware. It has user defined intervals, like the eCheck you mention.

another alternative:

http://www.echo-sol.com/software/menumail/

however, it does use user-defined intervals.

New mail checkers?

All of the programs named here are ancient!! It's almost 2009 and more people have & develop for macs now -- anyone know of a menu-bar mail alert system for a mac?

Oh, and I only use the webmail, so I don't want an ap that works with the mac mail ap, or thunderbird, etc. Just an imap notifier.

TY.

Fastcheck runs under OS-X & Wine, if you can / choose to run Wine on your system.

I checked the eCheck website and found:

eCheck is not compatible with Leopard: Development Discontinued
(in case anyone else is interested).

FastCheck, using the IMAP Notify command, alerts to new mail in the Inbox directory rather quickly. The intervals are when to automatically check other directories for new mail.

Why not use Apple Mail?
On Leopard (OSX 10.5), Apple Mail support instant notification for IMAP mailboxes.

I couldn't agree more with this. Even if you prefer to send and receive messages in the web interface, setting up Mail.app not only gives you instant notification of messages but enables you to do fast multi-folder search integrated with Spotlight. Plus all your messages will be backed up onto your mac as well.

For me Apple Mails only advantage is the spotlight integration. I don't use mail, it works not very well with IMAP.
- The subsription list doesn't work, it shows no folders
- The annoying "Apple Mail To Do" folder, which will be automatically created (although I tried a lot of things to prevent it),
- You can't exclude shown folders from checking for new Mails.
- Sometimes double showed senders e-mail-addresses in the from-column, which causes also failures in the To: line when I send a reply.

And yes, I've tried different IMAP path prefixes and different providers.

For me thunderbird works like a charm, except the spotlight integration...

mail reply with broken address

to be perfectly honest, I hate having something running when I don't need it. I prefer the web interface and would like to see a small lightweight checker. I wish I knew how to code, heh.
