Thumbs up Fastmail app awesome, with one significant flaw

Awesome app. Absolutely awesome.

Unfortunately they still haven't made a method to"share pictures" or any other files, with fastmail. Only way to attach photos is to start a message and insert file... But if you have thousands of photos, I may be impossible to sort through then all...
We need a "share to fastmail" control in Android, that allows us to share the photos

It's an app.

I get that this is so important to you, but one flaw is so significant you had to post twice?

Fastmail developers get a lot of flack. Just trying to show my support.

Slow day on the forums, huh?

Why not use the gallery web-site function?
It's dead easy to use.
Upload the pics to a folder under 'files' then under 'web-sites' create a web-page of type 'gallery' and point it at the folder containing the pics.
Simples.

I have no problem sending pictures, the problem is that if I took a picture on my Android phone, all other email apps work by viewing the picture then selectiong "Send to" and then selecting the app... Fastmail is the only app that I have that isn't supported in the Android system-level integration.

Of course, I can just go in fastmail, and select "add picture" to the email, and do it that way, but it adds a lot of steps.

I'd like to see the app work with the standard Android functionality.

Ah, OK, I misunderstood.
That word 'share' has a new special meaning, and is therefore ambiguous.
I see what you meant now.

I don't know if it can. Fastmail is an app on the cheap, at least on iOS. It's really an embedded web page run in a browser module. I would be surprised if it's different on Android.

That's most apps these days... you just have to have the system calls...

Sharing is now possible.

The mobile version of FastMail loads automatically on my Android phone and works perfectly. Why would I need the FastMail app? What "exactly" does the app offer that the mobile version of the website does not?

See the list and comments about future changes on the help page at the link below. There are additional new features in the update to the mobile app which came out last week which have not been added to this page:
https://www.fastmail.com/help/clients/mobileapp.html

The main differences are:
  • When using the app, you don't have the browser bars at the top and/or bottom, so you typically have more available screen space.
  • New message notifications require use of the app.
  • You can share photos and files directly to the Fastmail app
  • Other long-term improvements are planned in the future (such as offline use of the app)
For Android - What's New in the Aug 25 app release:
- Share your photos and files directly to the Fastmail app
- Long click on links to view the url and perform relevant actions
- Performance improvements

For iOS - What's New in the Aug 25 app release:
- Share your photos, files and text directly to the Fastmail app. - Tell your device that you can share to Fastmail by tapping More from the Share menu, and enabling the Fastmail app.
- New Device Settings menu located within the app.
- Choose your default browser for opening links.
- Toggle the Desktop UI (iPad only).
- View the app version number.
- Links will now open in the in-app browser by default.
- To change your default browser settings, open Device Settings within the Fastmail app.
- Bug fixes and maintenance.
