Signup for Runbox without an existing email?

Hi guys,

Following my recent post, I've decided to try Runbox. The fact that it has its own sub-forum here inspires confidence and proves them to be trustworthy and a reliable email provider.

Anyway, I tried creating an account but it seems impossible without filling in the alternative email field and because the field tip says the email is used for password reminders and service information, I'd hate to use a throwaway email for the sole purpose of creating another.

Is there a way around this? Perhaps a way to register by phone or live chat?

Hi there,

We really recommend registering an alternative email address just in case, but currently only a validly formatted address is required. In other words, you could enter thisisntavalidemailaddress@example.com as the alternative address. If you do enter a non-existent address in the signup process, please remove it afterwards from the Account screen so any automated reminders aren't sent there.

Anyway, welcome to Runbox!

Ah, thank you Geir.

I'll signup right away.

edit; I've signed up for a trial account and remove the alternative email as you suggested but I'm not receiving emails. I am expecting 2 emails and nothing has arrived.

I took a chance and subscribed and it seems to have fixed my problem. I'm guessing it may be a problem with newly created trial accounts or merely just a random occurrence

Right, due to the way new accounts are distributed among the servers it could take up to 15 minutes for them to be able to receive email.

Our apologies if this wasn't made entirely clear in the signup process.

Glad you got it working anyway!

What happens if someone updates their alternative mail address but fails to verify it? I noticed there is a link on the account page to verify an alternative address.

If you can't verify your email address you will not be able to send mail from the webmail interface. Once you pay for the account this restriction is removed. This only applies when you first sign up for an account, and there is no need to verify addresses after that time.
