Talking This is so funny! A must read!

Can you believe it?

You can't plow a cotton field with an elephant in North Carolina.

In Lehigh, Nebraska it's against the law to sell donut holes.

In the state of Queensland, Australia, it is still constitutional law that all pubs (hotel/bar) must have a railing outside for patrons to tie up their horse.

An old law in Bellingham, Washington, made it illegal for a woman to take more than 3 steps backwards while dancing.

In Riverside, California, there is an old law on the city's books which makes it illegal to kiss unless both people wipe their lips with rose water.

I once heard that in one small US town, it's illegal for a bee to fly over the town. How they proposed to arrest any offending bee is anyone's guess...

Also, some place where I forgot, it's illegal to dress a monkey in woman's clothing.

...

Don't ask...

Some of them need to be taken with a pinch of salt.

Here's the funniest one in California:

No vehicle without a driver may exceed 60 miles per hour.

That site fails to say whether it's still illegal in Britain to fail to attend at least one Church service on Christmas Day.  If it is (and I think it is), then nearly the entire population are criminals!

Mind you, I've spotted one error (apart from the usual error of confusing "England" with "Britain"); the site states that "those wishing to purchase a television must also buy a license."  In fact, as established by a test case in 1984, it is not illegal to buy, own or even use a TV without a license; what is illegal without a TV license is to receive TV broadcasts, so anyone who owns a TV only for use as a monitor (for a home computer, games console, videocassette player or DVD player — provided, in the last two cases, that they watch only prerecorded tapes/DVDs and not ones recorded for them by a friend) is doing so legally.

I used to have a colour TV which for some 12 years was the monitor for my Spectrum; I still have a black-and-white TV — it's a bedside table.

This site is a gem

It is illegal to sell peanuts in Lee County after sundown on Wednesday. (Alabama)

Dominoes may not be played on Sunday. (Alabama)

There is a possible 25 years in prison for cutting down a cactus. (Arizona)

It is unlawful to refuse a person a glass of water. (Arizona)

A person may not cross state lines with a duck atop his head. (Minnesota)

Citizens may not enter Wisconsin with a chicken on their head. (Minnesota)

Florida (accidentally) banned all computers and smart phones in internet cafes

A special law prohibits unmarried women from parachuting on Sunday or she shall risk arrest, fine, and/or jailing. (Florida)

It is illegal to milk another person’s cow. (Texas)

and so on... that website is a true gem! But the US isn't the only country with silly laws still in the lawbook. I recall one Australian state (not sure by heart which one) prohibiting shooting a kangaroo when the arrow is going northbound.
And I'm sure when going through the lawbooks of virtually every country you'll find laws that are beyond absurd. Probably very old laws that are never enforced but that people somehow forgot about and thus never bothered to remove from the lawbook.

Bizarre laws in Belgium (translated from this Dutch language article) include

* that our own national flag is unconstitutional. Initially the order of the colours (going from left to right) was opposite of how we hang our flags in reality.

* the city of Leuven has a law allowing fines for buskers singing out of key

* dogs, horses and oxes can be called to the army to pull army vehicales (a sort of unused military draft for animals!)

* a law forbidding immigrants from holding a dove or pigeon was only recently abolished

* bailiffs are prohibited from seizing certain animals of one's lifestock

Probably a lengthier search online will result in more bizarre laws. Anyways, we have an unconstitutional national flag, that's pretty unique probably

I live in Texas. I believe that the law prohibiting milking another’s cow was removed 45 years ago. When such laws were created about 160 years ago, the tendency was to prohibit specific acts rather than general actions (such as theft of personal property). There was a difference between stealing a cow and the milk from that cow. There would be a similar difference between theft of electrical energy and theft of the wires delivering that energy. Or theft of an auto or theft of the fuel inside the fuel tank inside that auto.
