Operamail.com is not available for new Fastmail accounts or aliases. Opera owns that domain, but I believe that it points to Fastmail servers, since old accounts at that domain were allowed to continue (at least temporarily). Fastmail separated from Opera 6 years ago.

Ok. I erroneously figured that since I have an alias in that domain it was still available.

No ... just try to create a new account or new alias at that domain and you will see that it can't be found. You must be one of those grandfathered so you can continue using the alias.
