What a nice story! After such an ordeal, I would think that the kitten would go and beek before the fire.

If the kitten is meek (and mild) it will likely be happy wherever it lives, as long as it is not inside a wall

It would SEEM that Smee is the right-hand man for a pirate who has no right hand. That's a very strange position!

The kitten would be much happier in a SEMI (aka "duplex" in the USA, I believe...)

A MITT is either a glove or a nickname. In the US, a semi is usually a semi-trailer, while a duplex is either a semi-detached house or a type of power outlet which provides two sockets or in technical jargon a communication channel which allows bidirectional communication (half-duplex or full-duplex).
