Ay, I think we all suffer from this from time to time...
I've been caught humming the first few notes from Summer Lovin' all over and again. Hum. Hum-hum. Hum-hum. Hummumumumum-Hum. Hum-hum. Hum. Ad infinitum et ad nauseam. And lately I've been stuck with a song from a local singer (Marco Borsato), and it's driving me nuts.. --K |

Somewhat related maybe but offtopic?
What about the tendency to hear other tunes as the source of inspiration for the new popular one.
suppose you hear a new pop tune. You get a dejavu? feelign that this has been sanged b4 but maybe they twisted it around a bit. One such melody is the Cripple Creek tune. It is a very old "military tune" from 17 century or so but creep up now and then even in Pop music. Mostly inspired from Country and hillBilly tunes. It is an old fiddle tune but Banjo player use it too. another such very ld one is the children teasing song. The modern variant known to us in Sweden is "Do you really want me" by Robin. Many others make use of it too. Doesn't disney Woddie woodpeccker use something similar. another maybe too remote thingy is that if you hear somethign very monotonic like a Hammer that pole down things to stabilze a building by hitting solid ground under all the clay. Most enervating dunk-dunk-dunk. No variation waht so ever. But our minds seems to love variation so it make up variation of itself and make rytm out of the very precize repeating .... sometimes our brain even make melodies out of it. earworms? huh I have Ringing tones in my head too. So called Tinnitus. Mine are bearable. Highpitched and not muched to make much of. I accept them as inevitable. They don't disturb me much. Last edited by fmnewbee : 7 Oct 2004 at 07:54 AM. |

I usually get songs from those goofy Flash animations stuck in my head. The latest is "Dragostea Din Tei" by a Romanian group called O-Zone, that some Japanese Flash animators have been using lately. (Figures, it took me forever to get the "Miko Miko Nurse" song out of my head, and now this...)

The Tunes have a mind of their own ...
some of the Tunes that get stuck seem to love to emerge out of nowhere.
But my fave are an old Norwegian psalm or hymn or gospel? Not sure of genre. I trust it to be at least from 19 century. If you have seen the movie Fargo by the Cohen Brothers then you have it stuch in you I hope. Very lovely melody trew |

Stuck Christmas tune
Why is it nearly always a song that I hate that gets stuck?
I started a worst and best Christmas music thread today and named IMO the worst and two of the best. Guess which one has been going around in my head all day? ....yep, you guessed it ... *sings* "oh I'm the happiest Christmas tree, ho ho ho he he he!" _Malc |

I made the mistake of placing a "singing reindeer" in the house that starts singing whenever a light goes on or when somebody walks past it..... "Grandma got run over by a reindeer....." Very annoying song when you hear it for the billionth time and can't get it out of your head.
Then I made another mistake. A friend and I have this thing going on who has the most annoying ringtone on their mobile... Mah Na Mah Na, Mah Na Mah Na by the Muppets. I think I won These two songs -if you can call them that- are what I sing all day now and in a true Christmas spirit, annoying everybody around me, not to mention myself Hanneke |
