Google Apps and Domain

I have one of my domains that has the e-mail pointed to Gmail, so I can go to the Gmail home page and log in to the account from there.

There are times when a domain records are not working properly; for example, during a transfer of hosts.

My question is:

Does my domain e-mail address of "myname [at] mydomain" have an equivalent gmail address?

If you are using Google Apps (as opposed to backing up your email in a gmail.com account), then no, there is no equivalent gmail account for your [user]@[yourdomain] address. If you are transferring domains and for a period of time the pointers to Google are inactive, your incoming email is most likely to be bounced. This is why I would first set up the Google Apps MX records at your new registrar/host before beginning the migration/move from your old one. That way, during the migration, no matter what corner of the web is requesting to resolve your email, and no matter what stage your migration is at, you will always have your email delivered.

In line with FMRocks reply, it will be helpful if FredOnline were to describe his set up more explicitly.
Does this statement: "I have one of my domains that has the e-mail pointed to Gmail, so I can go to the Gmail home page and log in to the account from there." mean that you have set up message forwarding from your an email service provider hosting your domain to your Gmail account -- or does it mean that you have set MX records in your DNS settings pointing to a Google Apps account for your domain?

Thanks for your responses, guys.

Yes, the MX records are set up to point to the Google Apps account.

I've just changed the domain host yesterday (Go Daddy to Namecheap) and of course, some down time occurred, but not crucial thankfully . . .
