Are you sure one can do anything there without installation? I keep getting links to downloads from Sourceforge...

They're portable apps aren't they?

You just run - not install - them.

I see no practical difference between "download, install & run" and "download & run".

My question would be aren't Apps for cell phones, iPads & such? Don't own either one. Have enough problems keeping my laptop up & running. Never heard of Apps for a computer untill reading the above information.

In that context I quite agree.

Perhaps Adrian could have worded his post clearer, but I get his message.

This is really a hair-splitting exercise. A program for a PC (e.g. Thunderbird, Firefox) is just a program. The same program for Android or iPad is an application

That clarifies some. Although I don't understand all the technical sides of things. I think I'm just going to go with a couple of the other web browser suggetions here, that I've heard of before.
Hoping you're able to reply with help regarding a couple other threads I've started in the 'Off
Topic Lounge'. Thanks.

Usually(but not always)a portable or no install program will not require administrator privileges
it can make a big difference if you're not on your own computer.
