Firefox 1.5 and Ctrl-Enter

There's an annoying bug with Firefox 1.5 that causes the "Download manager" to appear when you use Ctrl-Enter on the mailbox compose screen to send a message. I've put some details here:

http://blog.fastmail.fm/?p=523

There's a link to a bugzilla report I've made. People can help out by voting for the bug, hopefully someone at mozilla will take notice and fix it! I had a quick look at the code today, but without a couple of days to dig around to see what's happening, I doubt I can fix what's going on...

I confirmed the bug and CCed a couple of Firefox developers. One of them is also a Fastmail user, so hopefully he'll know how to get this one fixed.

in delphi you can set the key to #0 when you have handled it and then "subsequent hooks" wouldn't continue to process the key - I tried to do this in JS but couldn't set it up. using a temporary variable didn't help either.

Did you know that CTRL-ENTER in the address bar adds www. .com to whatever you had typed? is that related?

I didn't know we could do that!

But it takes fewer key presses if you use the combination TAB (to move to the 'Send' button) then SPACE, because CTRL-ENTER brings up a confirmation dialog.

TAB then SPACE probably doesn't work if you use the HTML composer though...

Hopefully this will be fixed in 1.5.0.1, though I don't see an official blocking status or anything...

------- Comment #2 From Jesse Ruderman 2005-12-19 15:37 PST [reply] -------

I can repro using Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Win98; en-US; rv:1.8) Gecko/20051111
Firefox/1.5.

Nominating for Firefox 1.5.0.1 because this is a regression with a lot of
votes.

Anyway, thanks for voting everyone! The more the better!

I just voted for this bug as well. And I hope it gets fixed soon as well, but at the moment this bug has not yet been assigned to anyone. Without somebody working on it, I'm not sure how soon it will be fixed.

using Firefox 2.0.0.6 (German) the download manager still pops up.

At Bugzilla I found a hint that using Ctrl-Shift-Enter will work as expected (which works for me).
