I have a pet rat called Purity, she was left at my place by my daughter, when she moved out, only a couple of months after buying her at a pet shop. Needless to say, Purity is snow white and very lady like in her manner.
In the mornings, when I do my email, Purity is very active, and will run down my arm (from my shoulder) on to my computer desk. I will always ask her (very nicely) to keep off the keyboard, but she will look at me with disdain, and go about her business, which usually consists of sharing my wheatie breakfast cereal bar. After an hour or so, she will get tired of playing and will sleep curled up on my shoulder (under my shirt) for she is awake most of the night. On the whole, Purity is most entertaining, and has become a very good friend. It's tough to say that your best friend is white rat, but in my case it's the truth |

Aww, rats are so cute! We used to have two of them. A female name Guinevive and the male was very imaginatively named Ratsie They even had a litter of babies, until our Australian Terrier got into the cage and killed them

I have two cats:
Abby (the tabby) -- I got her from a friend -- when she moved, the new place didn't allow pets. Alex -- got him when I thought Abby had injured herself and I brought her into the emergency clinic. (Fortunately, it was a false alarm.) His original name was Emos. I asked them what that meant and they said, "You don't have to keep that name -- feel free to name him whatever you want." To this day, I still wonder what Emos means. If they had said something like, "Emos is a warrior from ancient Norse mythology" or something to that effect, I would probably have kept it. I just couldn't see my friends asking me, "Why is he named Emos?" and I were to respond, "I don't know, that's what they named him at the shelter." Alex is the most affectionate cat you could ever ask for. By the way, does anybody know where the name Emos might have come from? Anybody? Anybody? Bueller? Bueller? Bueller? |

I have four cats and one dog.
Two female cats: Tasha, a Himalayan, and Sarah, a tabby. I got both from my sister. My sister rescued Tasha from a freeway off-ramp. Sarah was originally my niece's cat, but when my niece moved out of the house Sarah stayed behind. Sis can't keep cats due to husband's allergies. Two male cats: Smokey, a black cat adopted from the city shelter, and Fraidy Freddy, adopted from a rescue organization. Both boys are very affectionate with us and love to play. The dog is a male Lhasa Apso that my mom got from a co-owrker who moved to an apartment that didn't allow pets. I took Bo home with me just because. Living in a house full of cats, sometimes he thinks he is one. |

Absolutely agree, I think rodents are underestimated and make the best pets in the world!

I did have a cat together with my x-GF but let her keep the cat
when we separated. Would be very dead now due to old age. Cat's seldom get that old. We got him 1969 so it would be some 33 years or so I loved that cat. So trusty and wanting to cuddle when I allow it to. I have thought of getting somebody like her without an attached GF. It would be irresponsible to get one now when I know how few years I have left after the Chemo treatment. AT most 1 year they say. I could maybe "borrow one" and they get her or him back after my death. Then we are two or more that take care of it them getting reports from me how it adjust to my home |

I think some of the cat charities have more moggies to look after than they can handle, so maybe you could give one of them a home for a while.
Probably not a kitten but an older house cat, like a rag doll breed - you could be doing the mog a huge favour to get out of the cattery for a while. I'm not cat expert though, I have two gerbils myself and we also have quite a sweet rat in residence. |

One cat. Male, so called "domestic breed", read: tabby, with no pedigree in sight

Three dogs, two cats, cats are mostly feral and lots of gecko lizards, they are not really pets though but have free run of the house.

to tame them. I bought two together but they where not bread by a certified Breader that cuddled them from start så those two that I brougt where afraid of humans. They sell them as food for snakes I guess. So I failed to get them to trust me. I did not have the patience wait them to slowly get used to me. Cat's are easier in that you could let the cat decide if it likes you or not and only by that one. |
