Sending from Gmail with FM's SMTP servers

Occasionally I need to send an email from a Gmail account I maintain for the few times a year this is necessary.

Long ago, I set things up in Gmail so that outgoing mail would be sent through FM's SMTP server.

Recently, that didn't work, and I suspected that was because the setup was done BEFORE FM required app-specific passwords for use outside of FM.

So, I created a new app-specific password for Gmail, and attempted to use it as the password (with my FM email address as username) in the Gmail screen where one sets up an external SMTP server. BUT, Gmail wouldn't accept the credentials, which I suspect means that when they tested the combination of username and (newly created app-specific) password, FM rejected the login.

Any ideas about how to fix this issue? Is it still possible to use FM as an external SMTP server on Gmail (and other email accounts)?

You probably did this, but just to check: Did you change the SMTP server from the old messagingengine server to the new smtp.fastmail.com server?

The first time I tried I did NOT change from the messagingengine server, but the second time I did.

Today I tried again, and this time it "took." I don't know if it was my error or something at Google's end, but all is good now.

Thanks for the response.
