cannot connect to Fastmail

All day long I seem to have problems connecting to fastmail (the website and trhought Thunderbird. The error message says:

The mailserver returned an incorrect greeting. Cannot connect to SMTP server 66.111.4.52. connect error 10060

And then it works again, and then it doesn't. Problem on my end or with fastmail?

I haven't had any problems, and don't see any other reports of problems. This sounds like a connectivity issue to me, although it could be due to a firewall or router problem, so be sure to reboot all hardware involved in your connection to the Internet (computer, wireless access point, routers, and DSL or cable or satellite modems). Do you have a copy of Fasttest on your PC? This tool can check connections to Fastmail, but you need to download it and you might not be able to get it while your connection is bad.

This looks like general connectivity problems to me. If you run this test several times, do you get different results? In particular, does the "Traceroute result" ever work? If it does, you might post the traceroute results. If you get different results when re-running this test, then it's just a bad connection. What type of Internet access are you using? DSL? Satellite? Cable modem?

Yep, looks like general network problems. Have you made any recent changes to your firewall settings? Or introduced a new router with firewall enabled?

One quick thing to try would be to reboot your machine as well as your modem/router. If that doesn't help, I think you should get in touch with your ISP. They probably have made some changes - introduced a proxy or something.

Thanks for the replies.

I will have to contact my ISP since I haven't changed anything on my end and rebooting the computer, the modem and router didn't solve the problem.
