Changes to Alias and Virtual Domain Limits

Just Received this from Fastmail:
--------------
In an attempt to make things simpler for our users we're removing
the "a la carte" system of purchasing aliases and domains.

We're replacing it with much higher limits for these items on Enhanced
accounts, and increased limits for aliases on Full accounts. The new limits
are:

Full
* 6 regular aliases (5 chars or more)
* 1 short aliases (2-4 chars)
* No virtual domains or virtual domain aliases

Enhanced
* 30 regular aliases (5 chars or more)
* 3 short aliases (2-4 chars)
* 50 virtual domains
* 200 virtual domain aliases
--------------

A welcome increase that will make Fastmail a little more competitive against Tuffmail's approach of unlimited Domain's.

I agree, the increased allowance for virtual domains (and aliases) is a welcome upgrade.

As I recall we've been paying for additional domains for a couple of our Enhanced accounts. I'll have to double check the accounts to see what happens with any extra money that had been paid for the current subscription terms...

50 domains included! That is very nice!

But what happens to the money already paid? Some people just paid a multi-year subscription with an additional $12 per year per domain...

I saw your message too late :-) Anyway, I don't have anything extra in my "account pool" now, because of this...

I can see how this may be of benefit to many people, but what about guys like myself, who previously paid for the Full service, and just paid the teeny bit extra to have a single virtual domain and a couple of aliases. We will now be forced to renew at the Enhanced level of service, and pay double the annual subscription costs if we want the same level of service.

Is anyone else not hugley happy about these changes...?

Yes, you are right - this is an extra cost for Full subscribers with just one domain: you paid $20 + $12 = $32 per year, and now you need to pay $40 per year for the same.

Maybe they could allow one virtual domain for full users - this would bring back many from tuffmail.

Anyway many thanks to the Fastmail team for this wonderful change

The norm in the website/email hosting industry is to "grandfather" the existing accounts, and apply the new rules to new accounts only. I hope Fastmail will comply with this tradition for the sake of people like yourself.
Personally, I salute them for catching up with the times...

I'm still unclear. These new limits are awesome, but I have an Enhanced account, and I paid a crapload extra ($24 extra) a couple months back for all my extra domains and aliases.

Do I not see that money back? Does this only help me next year, when it's time for renewal?

My suggestion is to renew your Fastmail account for one more year now. You will get the credit for the unused portion of your already paid amount, and the renewal should be at the regular $39.95 per year fee. Hope it works.

I'm confused. Do you mean renew my account (Enhanced) for one more year?
