spymac webmail - am l in or out?

l could login into my spymac account.

but l could not proceed further to use my email account - it says

"you must be logged in to visit this page!".

l mean, l believe l have successfully logged in into spymac as there was NO indication of error messages - invalid user, password error, etc.

anyone know why?

yes, that's exactly the login page which l have used.

to test it out l have used both instances :

1.a fictitious user id and of course it says, "no valid user data detected"

2.my valid user id but now using a wrong password and it says, "no valid user data detected".

in short, if l am using both my valid user id and password l can actually & successfully logged in into spymac .

nevertheless it remains a mystery though it accepted my login it didn't 'allow' me to proceed further to use my webmail account???

Spymac started as a mac users' community. Then shortly after Gmail launch, they started a number of services for Spymac members: webhosting, email, photo hgallery, storage space for users files, etc.

However, Spymac was crippled from the begining by poor administration, poor server maintenance, poorly written scripts, and all this lead to a lot of problems regarding services stability.

Spymac was unable to reach a large userbase because of their technical problems, they were loosing money and start charging for their services. However, they still failed to offer stable services and their revenue was unable to sustain Spymac existence.

On the edge of collapse, Spymac stopped developing the mac users community a couple of years ago, concentrating their power into a new product, Leapfrog, a video/photo/file sharing community. The mac users community still exists but with no technical support and very little money invested in their services.

That's why their old services linked to the mac users community fail often and are expected to be closed down.

I would not use a spymac.com email account for important stuff, because there's no guarantee that the service will still exists in the near future.

Also, according to their forums,

The following email was sent to all spymac.com email addresses:
Quote:
Dear Spymac member

Over a year ago, Spymac took a new direction with its media library
system previously known as Leapfrog. Prior to this new direction,
Spymac provided a paid service called "Club" that gave email (with
POP and IMAP access) and web address. We continued to offer that
service because we knew some of our members found it useful, even
though it continued to be a significant use of resources. In order
to focus resources on our primary purpose of the media library, we
will be ending club on

December 31, 2008

We believe that two weeks will give sufficient time to find
alternative hosting and email services. At this time, the email
and hosting servers will be going down, so it will not be possible
to provide individual hosting.

Please take this time to make your plans and be prepared. A few
members had free email and hosting access, they will also be affected
by this change. Additionally, for those using the classic blogging
system, the shortcut address of will be going away at that time.

If your club expires after December 31, 2008, please email to arrange
for a partial refund. Be sure to include your Spymac account name, and
paypal address used for your last payment.

Also, on January 10 2009, their technical support announced:

Quote:
On December 12, 2008, an email was sent to all accounts stating that we would be ending all email services on December 31, 2008. The shutdown had been discussed on our forums for many months earlier. Due to scheduling issues, this was extended to January 9, 2009. As of now, Spymac no longer offers user email, paid or free, and there is no way to reactive or recreate any existing accounts.

If your club expires after January 9, 2009, please email to arrange for a partial refund. Be sure to include your Spymac account name, and paypal address used for your last payment.
A lot of more informations is available on Spymac's old forum, that can be reach at http://classic.spymac.com/forums/index.php

Hope this helps.
