Hello,

This was on Pobox's website:

https://fastmail.blog/2018/08/08/fas...ge-2018-08-01/

IF you are looking for a better explanation try submitting a support ticket regarding issue.

Just a suggestion

David

FM is generally quite good about explaining what happened in outages--especially compared to other providers that often provide no information. However, they may have jinxed themselves with this statement: "Given that this has never happened before in the over 15 years we have been with NYI, we’re confident that it won’t happen again." I suggest that people who have been struck by lightning multiple times also confidently state the same thing after the first one! Read about Roy Sullivan who was struck 7 times and survived all of them. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Roy_Sullivan

I wonder why they don't have an Aussie back up server, surly they could get that up and running in a few minutes.

With FastMail & PoBox down again today - Sunday 26th August - they really need to do something to ensure that they have no single point of failure.

I suggest we should all raise support tickets, & post the response here for all to see,

As David suggested above I raised at ticket (PTN445791) at 07:59 BST this morning:-

Quote:
For the second time this month Fastmail has been down
for some time.

In each case the secondary MX server in Seattle was
unavailable at the same time as the primary MX server.

This makes the secondary MX server absolutely worthless.

Can you confirm that you are taking urgent action to
eliminate the shared failure point that results in
simultaneous inability to access both MX servers.
I would encourage others to raise similar, but not identical tickets.

I will post FM's response here when received.

I had a response from FM Customer Support:-

Quote:
There was a problem with the backup server deferring emails when the primary was down. This was quickly identified by our engineers, and was fixed the next day, so in future, we don't expect this to be a problem.
The emboldening is mine.

Well, if it was "quickly identified", why did it happen with both the recent outages?
