Cannot receive on Mac Mail or Entourage

My Mac has stopped receiving mail from Runbox on either Mail or Entourage. Both programs can see the waiting mail and can report the number of messages waiting in both POP and IMAP formats but time-out when trying to download it. Ideas? Edit - Bluebottle PoP works fine so the problem seems be Runbox.

Hello and welcome to the Runbox Forum!

We have no generic indications of POP or IMAP connection problems at the moment. Could there be something "wrong" with the message(s) you're trying to download? Are you able to open them from Webmail?

Messages OK

Geir

Thanks but all the messages are readable and 'OK' - I sent them myself from another machine.

Could port 110 be blocked in some way? As I said, I am receiving notification of messages being queued for download on both Pop and IMAP - but I get a time-out from both Mail and Entourage before anything is received. Also, Bluebottle pop works OK!

Edit - I have a PC on the same network that is receiving PoP fine from Runbox. The Mac is new, running all the latest versions and I have no virus or firewall systems that could block Runbox. However, I have had a router/port conflict recently and hence my query whether a different port might work

If the PC is receiving just fine from Runbox then I'd say there is probably a problem with your Mac.

There are no alternative ports for POP...

I suppose your Runbox/POP-problems could be related to your local port conflict although you can POP from other services.

Partial Success

A trickle of e-mails are now coming in on the IMAP server - but all are headers only - with no body text or attachments. It is also misreporting e-mails - eg. 5 e-mails in the junk folder when these actually belong on the IMAP server in a different folder. It must be as described - a bottlneck at the server but why would my PC work fine?

Tried Thunderbird - instant IMAP access to new messages via Runbox but no POP access - same settings etc - but timed out

Another problem using Runbox on a Mac

I am having another problem using Runbox on a Mac -

It is not possible to connect to Runbox using FTP feature in Finder.
Also, not possible to upload files using the Files section in Webmail(using Safari.)

I get the following message :

Safari can’t open the page “http://www.runbox.com/files/fileslist.html”. The error was: “POSIX error: Is a directory” (NSPOSIXErrorDomain:21)

I tried using IE (Mac version) but same problem. One can upload files only using Opera but not Safari.

While it indeed doesn't work in Finder unfortunately, it works fine in Safari here (on Tiger) - do you have the newest version of the browser?

You should be able to at least read/download via FTP using Finder but you might not be able to upload. Refer to this posting:

Mac Finder and Files

FIX

By reducing the MTU to 1400, Runbox works fine. The default 1500 was too large for my ISP (using DSL with PPoE)
