Yea that takes me back to where I should be....enjoying the old music.

Shame a cant hide the folder search box.... perhaps Fastmail can go back a few weeks and leave it where it was out of the way.
Or put it with the folder box in the settings....where is should be.

Nothing like that in Thunderbird

I'm a Fastmail web interface user.

The thing I click most often is the 'Open main menu' down arrow on the top left of the screen. My muscle memory for this action is very strong. I kind of imagine a lot of other users must do the same, but who knows. I like the fact that I can click anywhere near this and get the same main menu showing.

Suddenly, in the new beta version, in the place of this down arrow is a button to toggle the side menu on and off. Personally, I'd never need to use this as I always need the side menu open.

The clickable area for the highly sought main menu button is now much smaller and in a different place. I feel this is a bad design choice. I would move the new button to the right of the big search box (instead of the left) where it is out of the way and in an area that had nothing there before.

I'm interested in knowing what other forum members think of this before sending beta feedback to support

It happened to me too, that I reached for the main menu and accidentally closed the left sidebar. But even at my old age I believe it would take about a week for my muscle memory to adjust. What I would really like to see is the Compose button moved from where it is to somewhere else, such as the top line (making room for one or two folders in the bottom). The search field can be much narrower (and expand over other elements when the cursor is in it) making room for the compose button and perhaps a slightly wider main menu.
I use the sidebars at the lowest available width, and with an easy to reach toggle on the left sidebar visibility I might switch to slightly wider sidebars.

Why not have the folder search box movable like all the other folders then people can put it what order they like.

Can I block it with a Stylish ad-on?

Monday blues

Fastmail have updated the web interface with the reduced size of the main menu button, now replaced with a pointless (for me) hide/show sidebar toggle.

They also added this hide folders triangle. Can't for the life of me imagine why you'd want to hide folders just to have a blank box. If you don't want to see folders you can hide the sidebar anyhow.

If anyone has an idea what benefit there are of changing these despite being long established functions of the UI I'm all ears.

There are so many bugs or inconsistencies in the settings UI just crying out to be fixed and here we are changing the front page for the sake of it.

Grunt, grunt, grumble, grumble, I got the Monday Fastmail blues... :P

The sidebar toggle I guess is for small screens.
The "Folders" container probably because they needed a line for the search and the add folder button. Since it's there there's no reason not to have it collapsible. Collapsing it is useful when you have several folder trees (that is when other users share folders with you).

Folder search is something useful while viewing messages or message list, so it's not something to be buried in some settings screen. But then it was always available using g from the keyboard. It's useful not just for searching folders by typing part of their names, but also in that it temporarily unfolds all collapsed folders and subfolders, and shows all hidden folders. So for people with many folders, with collapsed and hidden folders it is quite useful, and a mouse option to open it in an easily reachable location is quite basic (especially useful when the keyboard shortcut is not available, such as when using a keyboard with no letter g).

Yes useful and I realise I am stuck with the stupid thing....but why dont F/m ever use the task bar as everything is all stuck all up one corner.

Lets hope I can find some way of covering it up or blocking it but I probably never will....

Anyway complaining does no good.....so I'm out of here for a while.
