Looks like it's a weekday afternoon in Melbourne, so hopefully no one there at FM is getting yanked out of bed to fix this.

About 10 minutes ago the status page reported:
Quote:
Network has been restored, and we're gradually restoring service. Things might be a bit sluggish for the next little while, please bear with us!
At this time, two of my accounts are working, but the main one is not. Both web and IMAP connections are failing. But my small personal website (hosted at the Fastmail Files area) is working fine.

Half the east coast of Australia is out of action with communications and in turn this will affect Sydney and Melbourne.

Terry, as far as I can see, the outage was all in New York City, NY (or perhaps Los Angeles), due to local network issues. I don't see what weather in Australia (not affecting Melbourne as far as I can tell in the news) has to do with the outage, unless it kept Fastmail staff from calling New York City to ask NYI Datacenter staff to change hardware or move cables.

No, all of the Fastmail servers are in the US and Europe. I don't remember any mention of Australia servers in the 13 years I have had a Fastmail account. See this blog entry from over three years ago:
https://blog.fastmail.com/2013/10/07...means-for-you/

Fastmail still has their main server site at NYI in New York City, NY, but they now have auxiliary servers in other locations (mainly Los Angeles and Amsterdam, I believe). Here is a quote from Fastmail help:
Quote:
Today we are an employee-owned, independent company. Our headquarters are located in Melbourne, Australia with servers at New York Internet and QuadraNet in the USA, and at Switch Datacenters in the Netherlands.

I always thought they had the main one in Melbourne and it was linked to the US but it looks like I was wrong.
