There is an open source email server called XMail.
Of course Elon Musk can offer addresses @x.com.

Hope it happens.
Can't wait to get away from anything Google after their recent Gemini nonsense and their blatant loathing of a certain demographic.

I'll try anything once!

If it proves to be a disaster....no harm done.

Anything that allows people to move AWAY from gmail HAS TO BE A GOOD THING...IMHO.

Thanks for the heads up!

No idea why so many people are negative about google. Not like Elon Musk is a saint.

https://xmail.com/
I 'submitted an interest' in myfirstname@xmail.com and the next page said I would be notified when it was available. I found this weird because I had not given yet a working email address to send a notification to.. I just chalked it up to even this part of the service not working right in my browser, which is not 'chromy' enough for some services/sites.

The current owner of domain xmail.com could get rich soon.
I don't think he/she could resist the big money coming in from X
Unless X uses the same approach as Proton to go for Xmail.me instead because proton.com will never be available to them!

It would be a huge pain for users if they don't use xmail.com. I have found numerous times people just type in a .com ending no matter what the actual TLD. Half the time they just type in @gmail.com no matter what domain and TLD you are using. I've worked with mailing lists a lot, and it is frustrating how often email addresses are entered incorrectly, even by the owners of the addresses!
