Exclamation FastMail Blog and Wiki going down for a few hours next week

Here's the details from our hosting provider:

> When: Sunday, April 3, 11:00PM EST (Monday, April 4, 4:00AM GMT)
> Expected downtime: 2-4 hours, 6 hours maximum

We'll be shutting the server down a little before then to ensure that it will be shut down cleanly, and also testing that we can restart it to make sure it will come up cleanly again at the other end!

The server is being migrated into a new datacentre - part of an upgrade at the hosting provider (ServerBeach - we keep the blog and wiki separate from our main servers in NYI to provide a level of redundancy - even if one is down you can get information from the other!) to provide a higher SLA.

There will be no affect on the production mail and file infrastructure, so most users shouldn't even notice!

Bron.

edit: it's next week, not this week *sigh* - I'll thump Jeremy for telling me it was this week later, and thump myself for not actually reading what I posted right now!

Going down today!

Hi,

The blog and wiki server is now shut down in preparation for the move. It should be back within 6 hours.

I'm sure, by now, you know whoever is brave enough to post is the one who has to take all the blame.

Like I say to the accountants at work "The budget (or forecast or estimate) is always wrong." It frustrates the heck out of them when they ask why actual is over or under budget and I reply "The budget is wrong!".

Good one!! I'm going to have to remember that for the future. It can be used with many estimates vs. actual (time, money, etc.)
