address book updates and ctrl-enter to send mail

Following up from some of your suggestions we've made a bunch of small improvements to the Address Book interface.

Some highlights are:
* Ctrl-Enter now sends the email from the compose screen.
* Changes to the sort order and number of records shown in the Address Book are now saved across sessions.
* The text 'No name' is no longer displayed if you haven't given First or Last names to an Address Book record.
* Headings have been made more descriptive:
- 'Addresses' => 'Address Book'
- 'Contacts' => 'Email / Phone'
- 'Locations' => 'Addresses'
* The name of the person you're editing is shown at the top of the Edit Address page.
* You can quickly add and remove people from the Quicklist using the same interface as other groups.

Thanks to Richard for all his hard work on this.

Yep, I'm afraid to say that the 'No name' is mainly my fault. I suggested it after dealing with a pile of blank rows in the quicklist during testing. At least it wasn't around long!

Thanks for the update! These small tweaks greatly enhances the address book. The add/remove buttons for the quicklist are new as well? Anyway; great improvements - thank you!

Why are the entries in the 'Groups (Add/Edit) Sidebar' not sorted alphabetically?

now:
--------
a1
b2
c3
bbb2
a2
c2
aa
ba

an excellent address book
would it be possible to give us an option to "hide" all entries for specified groups (unless you specifically click on the group name)? for example i have a group called "Subscription" where i put all the newsletter emails that i need to white list. it would be nice if they didn't clutter up the "real" list of contacts.

also it would be nice if the background colour for each entry alternated, as it would be easier to click the correct "edit" or "+" link

Improvement? I don't get it.

I don't like the new email address page at all. I'm sure that part of it is that I'm not used to it, but I could not even figure out how to edit an address! I want first and foremost to get rid that darn "No Name" thing. I can easily recognize an email address, but not "No Name", "No Name".... . How can I turn off this "improvement" ? Or at least how can I edit an email address???

Georged, if you're viewing ALL the addresses, there's an EDIT link to the far right of each person's name. That's where you go in and edit.

You're probably wanting to click on the name to edit - me too. I keep doing that, even though I know where the edit link is. It's going to take a bit of getting used to.

I don't seem to be able to send mail with the CTRL-Enter combination. Nothing happens.

tried that several times

I tried clicking on the edit link. I checked the box to the left of the address and the clicked on the edit link. I also got the name & address listed and then clicked on the edit link. Did that and checked the box and clicked on the edit link & "+" link" etc. NOTHING worked.

Hi mballas,

A couple of suggestions:

* check that you have javascript turned on - the CTRL-Enter shortcut relies on javascript.
* check that you don't have any hotkey program capturing the CTRL-Enter keystroke before it reaches the web browser.

Could you also let me know what browser and operating system you're using so I can try to replicate the issue.

Thanks,

Bron.

Hi georged,

Could you let us know what browser and operating system you're using?

I use Firefox on Linux as my primary browser, but have also tested this using Safari on the Mac, IE and Firefox on Windows and Konqueror on Linux and the [+] and Edit links worked everywhere both with and without Javascript for me.

Just to confirm - you are in the 'Address Book' page and clicking on the links on the right hand side of the screen in the third and fourth columns of the main section of the screen. When you click the word 'Edit' it should load up the 'Edit Address' screen for that entry in your address book. When you click the '[+]' it should open up another section directly below that entry containing all the details for that contact. The '[+]' will also become a '[-]' which can be used to close the additional section.

Regards,

Bron.

P.S. - if anyone else is having trouble with the links, please let us know as well so we can work out what's causing the issues. Thanks.

I tried it with Opera 8.0 beta 1 and with Firefox 1.0, javascript on.

I am not aware of any CTRL-Enter combo that could pre-empt it.

Im using Win XP Pro, SP 2.
