The (possibly) new WAP interface
Since the posts about the (possibly) new WAP interface are scattered around, I figured I'd start a new one, exclusively dedicated to it. Makes things easier for everyone involved
![]() I've installed a test IMAP to WAP gateway, fixed some issues and enhanced it a little. In order to make it easier for Jeremy to try to integrate this package with FM, I would appreciate if everyone who relies on WAP access would test it with their phones and report any errors/comments/ideas/wishes. The link of this test service is http://www.broobles.com/wapfm. The modified code is available from here and I hope we'll see it soon on wap2.fastmail.fm ![]() For those interested, the major changes compared to the original version of a couple of days ago are: - Replaced INDEX and BACK softkeys with links on all pages, making it easier to navigate - Added markers for Deleted and Replied messages (X and R respectivelly) in the message list - Added folder purging (expunging) for folders that contain deleted messages (from the Info page) - Made it work for a very picky version of a Sony Ericsson T68i browser - Messages in the list are now prefixed with the sender (very rudimentary - just the user part of an email address to save space). |

Hi ivec!
Firstly I must give you credit for ImapSize - I find it to be a great companion tool for my fm account. Secondly; I also really appreciate your initiative to get the fm crew to implement a working wap solution. Hopefully we'll have a live wap2 soon... ![]() Anyway; I just had a quick look at your modified distribution of pofHQ wapMAIL. I'm not yet that confident with PHP to comment on any of your modifications, but I did notice a configuration setting that I believe to be incorrect. In the config.php you've set "$IMAPSERVER" to point to fastmail.fm, shouldn't this be mail.messagingengine.com instead? |

Thanks vidvandre
![]() You're right, the server name should change. I always use fastmail.fm by inertia (to lazy I guess ).For those of you who were unsuccessfully trying to connect to the test service this morning - my whole site is down due to a comprehensive hardware test on the server where it is hosted. Sorry about that, should be up later today. |

Unsuccessful trial
Hi,
When I try to access my mail this way I receive an error message 'Unsupported Content Type' after hitting the submit button on the log-in screen. Phone is Siemens SL55, and I regularly accessed my mail via wap with yahoo and fastmail's original wap site without any problems (besides the bugs at wap.fastmail.fm...). Unfortunately, I don't have any more relevant information than that, but just wanted to note this apparent incompatibility. Thanks for all the efforts with this - if it works out, I'll really appreciate it. |

lordsirpeter, could you please check if it works on this alternative link: http://www.broobles.com/wapfm2 (same as the usual one, just add a 2 at the end).

So far I know it works ok with phones that use the Openwave UP.Browser (quite a few phones use it) and the Sony Ericsson browser.
From the site log I can see that the following phones have been making repeated sessions (so they are most likelly ok): Sagem myV-55 Sagem myV-65 Siemens A55 Sony Ericsson T68 Sony Ericsson T200 (2 sessions only) Following phones have only one session recorded, so they might have failed: Nokia 6310i Nokia 7250i Siemens SL55 (definitelly failed) It would be helpful if Nokia users would drop a note if the site works for them or not. |

I think I just ran into a minor issue...
Seems like wapMAIL is assuming that all users are using the fastmail.fm domain. I successfully logged in with the username part (of my fm address) only, then I logged in with my complete user name (which of course at fm includes the domain). Both worked fine (I'm guessing because I'm actually using fastmail.fm), I could successfully browse the contents of my inbox. However; When logged in with my full username and go to the compose screen, my email address is automatically entered as username[at]fastmail[dot]fm[at]fastmail[dot]fm. This lead me to the assumption that a single wapMail installation would only work for a single domain. Do you know if this is correct? Hopefully it's only a minor glitch in the compose screen... (Btw; I was using Opera 7.53...) |

lordsirpeter, the login page on wapfm2 displays the browser name. What does it say in your case?

BTW, a nice thing about the compose screen is that the from field is editable as in the FM web interface ![]() |

Nokia 7250i
It seems to work quite well with my 7250i.
I don't know how much control you have over these things, but a couple of suggestions... 1. I had two emails in my inbox. After these appeared the text "You don't have any more mails.". Is this really necessary? I can see I don't have any more by the way that there are no more listed! 2. The 'Submit' command was hidden by my phone under Shortcuts in the phone's browser menu. This made things confusing on the login screen and on the compose screen (when trying to send the email). Could there be a 'Submit' link on these pages? Also, I replied to an email and managed to send it after working my way through the Nokia browser menus to find the Submit 'shortcut'. But this email hasn't appeared in my Sent Items when I log into fastmail webmail normally. I've got a feeling the email was never sent, but I'll test this properly later. Thanks for getting this all working! |

Good to hear it works on a Nokia 7250i
1. Makes sense, will remove that. 2. The original package had a few of these buttons, I got rid of all of them except for the Submit button, somehow I couldn't make it work without it. Will try again. 3. wapMail currently doesn't upload the sent message to the IMAP server. I agree it should do it and will add that functionality. |

7250i
I've received an email that I composed on my phone, so forget what I said earlier about thinking my email hadn't been sent.
I like the added signature! This e-mail was sent using FastMail.FM wapMail powered by pofHQ wapMAIL 1.3beta2 from a Nokia7250I/1.0 (3.22) Profile/MIDP-1.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.0 browser. |
