Fastmail file storage...
is now available for beta testing at www.fastmail.fm/beta You should have a Files link at the top of the screen, or you can go there via the Options screen.
Feel free to give it a try, and let me know of any suggestions / bugs via support at rjlov dot fastmail dot fm. There are no faq entries for this yet, so I'll just point a few things out to you: The folders in your file storage can be viewed directly on the web. If your user name is sampleusername, you can point your web browser at: sampleusername.fastmail.fm for your "public" folder private.sampleusername.fastmail.fm for your "private" folder foldername.sampleusername.fastmail.fm for your other top-level folders. "public" requires no username and password. "private" requires your fastmail username and password. Other folders can be public, private, or you can specify a password. Important: To turn on web access under your username, got to Options -> Account Preferences and select "Web Access to File Storage". Otherwise it will seem like your username doesn't exist. If you want to enable access under foldername.samplealiasname.sampledomain then you need to delete your alias, and add it back again, with the web access option enabled. (We'll fix this useability problem.) I think that's all. Have fun! Richard. |

Ah yes, it's 250k for guest and member, 10m for full and 150m for enhanced. This quota is separate from your mail quota. Likewise there are bandwidth restrictions, which are also separate from your mail bandwidth. They are 10m/month, 250m/month and 750/month respectively.
One of the things Rob suggested today was to build a little usage meter like the one on the mailbox screen. Richard. |

At the moment:
Guest: 250k Member: 250k Full: 10M Enhanced: 150M This may or may not change. Yes, a quota bar like on the mailbox screen is on the list of enhancements to come ![]() [edit: ... missed by that much... ] Rob |

I am unable to access http://myusername.fastmail.fm, although i enabled public access and uploaded a test file. Is this supposed to work now or only after the final release? you've done a superb job again (and really quick, following the new spam system), thanks ![]() |

separate storage quota?
Let me ask the obvious question: why have separate (and lower) quota for file storage. Why not have a user's current quota be applied for all storage: file storage + mail storage.

I've had the same problem, with a few others:
Can't access or delete a folder if you've created it under public for example. If you create a folder under public and then select it you go directly to the root again. I emailed these issues into Richard ![]() It does look like it is very well integrated into the UI. I'm all excited about this now! |

Re: separate storage quota?
Quote:
There was a thought at some stage of storing files as attachments in emails in the IMAP server in a separate set of folders. You get the shared quota, but otherwise it's a pain. There's the performance hit of having to encode/decode the email/attachment on each access, and each file uses 33% more space because of the encoding process. So basically we went with a separate quota system. Rob |

Yes, this makes no sense. I'm sure people who purchased extra storage would have appreciated it being allocated according to their desires. This shouldn't be a problem, as Mailsnare (for example) allows you to allocate storage between email and files in any proportion that you choose. BTW, did I read correctly? A whopping 250 kb for Guest and Member ![]() |
