MailSnare recommended, FM not ...

I just noticed on the excellent site of Nancy McGough (ii.com) that she highly recommends MailSnare (even to her friends), but not FM .....

MailSnare must be better ...

Is it just my lack of knowledge, or is it the case in Mailsnare that one can't mark several emails at once for a bulk operation eg mark as read?

Yes, you certainly can. As you may know, MS offers two web interfaces: IMP and VO. VO doesn't allow that action but IMP does.... With IMP you can even put several other IMAP flags (like 'important') on multiple messages.

Nancy's very well known among the email service provider community, etc. I believe that quite a few have trumpeted their sites being on her recommendation list ...

She does know what she's talking about ... so I'm eager to take a look at your mention of MS and rationale of preferring one over the other ...

The funny part of this is that in the past she did recommend FM; but for some reason she stopped doing that. Instead she's publishing warnings about FM ....

I do recall in the past, FM trumpeting her recommendation of the service as a big positive ... so it would be interesting to see why she changed her views ...

I have accounts at MS, FM, Runbox, etc., etc., and do concur that the MS guys are first rate ...

So in order to do something like marking more than one message read, does one log out of VO, go to IMP, do the job, then log out again and back into VO?

Well, Nancy certainly is one of the 'huge' names in Emailland. I've seen her name fly by often on newsgroups and other email-related things.

I'm not sure if this is the recommendation you mean:
Quote:
"If you are looking for a mail provider that offers challenge-response filtering, I recommend MailSnare.net (described below), which gives their users the option to use TMDA."
(Emphasis added)
Seems kinda logical she wouldn't recommend FM there, since FM doesn't offer CR filtering.

I'd like to be able to turn it on/off on a per alias basis. I like CR but it's a pain to use with mailing lists and the like.

Just went through the entire page *phew*... Edit: Just found them, somehow I read over them :-/ Anyway, all valid points she points out with FM. There have been a number of server problems, but for the past months I think everything's been stable again.
