This is great news! FM got the best from Opera's financial support and is now independent again.

Frankly I'm worried about Opera's future. I've been using their desktop browser for well over ten years, but I'm nearly resigned to abandoning it soon. The features that made it special have eroded over the years, and now the next major release is going to be a total rewrite based on Chrome, and I fear most of those special features will disappear. If I can figure out how to get some of the more important features using Firefox add-ons, I may be outta there soon. Well, eventually.

Give it up, Bamb0. It's time to move on. The old interface is not coming back. The reasons have been explained many, many times.

The new classic interface works well enough for me since the big font style was introduced - the other styles I found difficult with an 11.5" screen.

I'm not agin it, but I have no desire to embrace the new new interface yet - there are still too many missing features.

It would be nice however, in due course, to have some indication of development plans now the team have control of their own (and our) destiny.

Synchronisation is a continuing issue which ought to be top of the agenda.

One feature I would like - and I don't know if it's technically or commercially possible - would be the ability automatically to pass an attached Word Document to the proper MS Word Web App free on Skydrive.

I run a Chromebook these days, so cannot install a wordprocessor. GoogleDocs and even the promised Quick Office do not handle .doc and .docx well. If Fastmail could link to Skydrive and that would be great.

Actually the announcement said that the company has been bought by the "staff and developers", not the "original owners".

But it just so happens that the staff and developers now are mostly the same people as the before the 2010 sale.

I don't have a team. I'm just a junior cog in this machine.

And the old interface you're referring is never coming back.

Is that in response to the change of ownership or the fact the old interface is never coming back?

Great news Rob,

I hope that this new phase for Fastmail for you and the team proves to be very enjoyable - and profitable.

Also hope that there are sufficient financial resources for investment in new products, enhancements and additional expertise.

Will long serving users have the chance of becoming shareholders?

kind regards
Ed
