Tips to send a group email without getting caught in spam?

Hi,

I need to send an email to roughly 50 recipients but obviously want to avoid ending up in their spam boxes.

Are there any tips to avoid this (other than sending the email 50 times)?

There is nothing intrinsically that will cause group emails to be regarded as spam. Make sure you send the email through the web interface and in a manner where the standard high reputation Fastmail SMP servers are used. Ensure you stay within the hourly and daily limits on number of outgoing messages (each recipient counts as a separate message). These days, those limits are in the thousands, so regular group emails should not be an issue (see https://www.fastmail.com/help/accoun...s.html#sending ).

Do you know if Fastmail sends group emails as many individuals or one single group?

The message is sent separately for each recipient. The message number remains the same. Theoretically, it would sometimes be possible for mail servers to detect that a message has multiple recipients, but I am not aware of any mail service that attempts such an analysis.

Your biggest problem will come if some of the recipients don't recognise that they expected to get that mail from you.

This is a problem for newsletters sent to members of clubs and societies, as members get older and lose their wits. It only takes one or two such people to complain (eg to their ISPs - people like this rarely have separate mail providers) for whichever service you used to send the emails to flag you as a spammer.

Quite a lot of cheap web-hosts don't allow such newsletters to be sent to members of such clubs, even if they are hosting that club's website and email.
