How do I get help to comply with the new requirement in the email I received from fastmailfm?
I am so frustrated by this. I received a notification, see below. It says if you need help reply to this email. I did, and got an automated response that said my message was stored and would not be delivered until I authenticated it. I tried again, this time to authenticate, following the link provided, again, got the automated response telling me I had to -- something I do not understand. Also there was a note somewhere saying that live help was not available for members or guests, only full or enhanced, so go sign up for the higher level of service, pay your money - get the help. So guess what, I am already at the full member level. I can find NO WAY to contact any support services. I'd just like to include that I have been using fastmailfm for about a dozen years, never had a problem, loved the service, happy to pay for it, and here I am, trying to comply with unclear directions, and mad enough to spit nails for the effort I've made to communicate, when I have so much else I need to do. I am using outdated soft ware on a 6 year old computer. I had to go join the forums just so I could ask a question where someone would actually read it. thanks for any help that can be offered for full member to contact a live support person. cavemom this is the message I received: You are receiving this message because you need to make a minor change to the setup of your email software by *June* *30*. We have just detected an access to your FastMail.FM account. This means that you are using some external software (e.g. Outlook, Thunderbird, Mobile Phone, etc) to access your account. Account: ---@veryspeedy.net The email software performing this access did so over an *insecure* and *unencrypted* connection. This means your username, your password and any emails transmitted are being sent unencrypted over the internet. To ensure the privacy and security of our users, we are now enforcing that all users use encrypted (SSL/TLS) connections between their email software and our servers. To help users fix their email software, we have written some step by step instructions for the most popular software. |

thanks drew
thanks drew,
that is only half the problem, and the smaller half at that. Where is the support I am paying for? I deleted the rest of the tirade. I'll start a new thread that just asks for help accessing support that is supposed to be available with full and enhanced levels of service. Suffice it to say that today my opinion of fastmail fm is "another good company gone bad". |

Not working. I deleted my mac mail and thunderbird accounts, and wiped out my ipad account and fastidiously followed their directions - which led to me setting up my account exactly as it had been before. Everything is set up right.
Still, I just got three messages (6:18, 6:20, 6:23) saying that I was receiving the message because I had this problem that needed fixing, another message saying that I needed to fix it, and then one that said it's now solved, thank you for your action. To the poster above (thank you for your response & trying to help) that said my behavior might help me identify which accounts were triggering the sending of these messages ... I was cleaning the bathroom between 6:18 and 6:23. Webmail was open, but my behavior triggered nothing. New ideas? |

Have you taken a look at the login log?
It may give you a clue as to what was accessing your account, if anything, during that time.

If you were not actively working on the computer at the time the IMAP connection occurred with bad settings, then this just means some kind of automated connection occurred. I note that the connection being complained about came from the Road Runner network. Is Road Runner your ISP? Do you have a mobile device that would connect using Road Runner's network? What other programs do you have on your computer that might be accessing your email. Do you by any chance use FastCheck? |

I am only have a Guest account at Fastmail.
And here at EMD all of us are volunteer. The support is activated through Support ticket. You need to find the page where you can send in that Support Ticket. That is how the support get activated. Here at EMD all is up to everybody's altruism and not something one can count on. It is more like a person to person gift we give each other because we care about email as a good way to communicate. https://www.fastmail.fm/mail/?MLS=LN...Signal=SU-*N-1 That link show my user name in it? Hope it shows your username if you click on it. I used it and one have to expect about 24 hours due to time zone considerations. They are at sleep when I am awake due to Australia being where it is geografically. |

I had this email a few days ago.
Simple fix, change the server settings on my 'phone - took 2 minutes total to find & rectify. I'm no geek, just stay calm & think it through. Which device accessed FM at the time indicated in the email & through that ISP. NJSS |

Seems to be a few getting tripped up here - perhaps FastMail could do with re-writing some of the blog on this subject to make it clearer.

I got some of these messages today when I moved a Thunderbird profile to a new computer. I had been using mail.hosteddomain as the mail server with no warnings or problems (still) on original computer.
I did recently experience that TLS/SSL stopped working on my Android phone running K9 and had to explicitly force it to SSL. I assumed that that was a K9 bug. Today I changed the mail server to mail.messagingengine.com after the warning and I got a note telling me that the problem was now resolved, and it was signed with an email address of webmaster@hosteddomain, which was a bit of a surprise. It appears that Fastmail may have assumed that I was using an unencrypted link because the mail server wasn't mail.messagingengine.com. It suggesed I was using www.fastmail.fm, which I wasn't If I can use mail.hosteddomain to login to an own-brand web site it would be nice, given that FM is the DNS provider to be able to use mail.hosteddomain as the mail server. Update: I have now received another warning, though I have changed nothing since I last got a message saying the problem was now resolved. Ok, so it's my phone causing this but my phone is configured to use SSL Or was... Just realized that I had removed this recently (not gone from TLS to SSL as I remembered, wrongly and, I assumed temporarily --and forgot about it). Turning it back on didn't resolve until I ALSO changed the mail server to mail.messagingengine.com Last edited by PON : 26th June 2012 at 03:34 AM. |

Verizon dsl issue?
Before I receive nonexistent "customer support" from Verizon, I want to know if anyone else is experiencing real issues with configuring the new FM rules for IMAP/SSL. I have set all ingoing and outgoing ports as specified by FM. Email retrieval/sending works fine on my 3G iphone connection.
However, when I use my home's Verizon DSL service, no emails retrieve/send from FM. Going to my HP touchpad and iphone setup, it won't connect to the server. This must be a problem with Verizon and not with FM. Has anyone else been able to circumvent the issue? What did you do? |

Are you able to access www.fastmail.fm in the web browser on your iPhone and TouchPad?

I didn't try that... but never mind. I just had to adjust my Verizon router firewall settings from "medium" to "low" for my mail to finally retrieve and send.
Apparently, the "medium" strength firewall was blocking the nonstandard posts that FM is now requiring us to use. If anyone is still having issues with the new settings, among other things, log into your router's management interface and adjust your firewall settings. Or, if you know what you're doing, you can open all of your ports while keeping your firewall strength in place. (I'm not an IT person, so my solution will have to do for now...) Thanks for your advice! Last edited by Dimple : 27th June 2012 at 10:44 AM. |
