Yahoo Hosting
Anyone had experience with Yahoo hosting their email? I am considering using Yahoo to host my Domain email but don't find much info on the Yahoo mail site. Is it difficult to set up etc.? Would there be a long down time during the setup etc.? Thanks for any info.

Sorry, I don't have answers for you, but would recommend checking other companies like Fastmail, Tuffmail, Runbox and other mentioned here, before settling on Yahoo. I believe you will get much more from the above than from Yahoo.

Thanks ReuvenNY for your response. I value highly the opinions on this site and am usually guided in my decisions by them.

One thing that i know about Yahoo email hosting is that in order to yahoo mail hosting, you have to direct your domain's DNS instead of MX record.
And i say, its bad. Over to that yahoo does not support SSL. I am not aware about their beta one. |

Thanks sreenadh for your response. I appreciate all responses. I am not too knowledgable about MX records versus Domain DNS. I have one Domain mail hosted with a well known service and the Name Servers are directed or pointed to that service. On my Domain I only saw where Name Servers could be directed to the Email service. How would I set MX records to a particular service in the event it was needed? Thanks for any info.

I too am not that knowledgable but just trying to be knowledgable
![]() Here i am gonna try & answer but i would request one of the seniors to correct me if i am wrong. DNS is resonsible for directing ppl who type ur URL(ur web address) to your website. While MX(Mail eXchange) record, as the name suggest is responsible to handle ur mails. Now domain will have its DNS pointing to your registar(the guys who sells domains) and they will have features like URL masking. And ur website is "abc.blogspot.com". And if i type ur webaddress(abc.com), it will go to ur registar & they will direct it to ur blog "abc.blogspot.com" but in the address bar the address shown will be "abc.com". And now if ur MX record is pointing to Yahoo. All your mails will go to yahoo. But now Yahoo needs you to point you ur DNS to them. That means that when i type "abc.com", i will go to yahoo & from there they will direct me to "abc.blogspot.com". But in the address bar, it will show "abc.blogspot.com". I really have no idea why Yahoo needs ur to point out DNS when most of the other services just needs us to point out MX record. |

Thanks sreenadh for you help. I think you did a pretty good job explaining the subject and I appreciate it very much. When I go to my Domain seller I don't see any provision for directing my MX records, only the Name servers. As long as Yahoo needs them then I'll be ok if I decide to go with Yahoo.
