Aliases screen

In the aliases screen there is an "Active" box.
What is it for?

If "Active", it performs its normal job as an extra working email address. If you leave the box unchecked, you cannot receive email at that address. Fastmail will refuse it at the smtp connection stage, with a message like the following:

By leaving the box unchecked, you can hold an address for your account (maybe a previously used one) so that nobody else can use it. That would be quite useful if you were concerned someone else might be able to receive emails sent to one of your discontinued addresses.

That's exactly what I thought!
However I made a test unchecking one of my aliases and sending a test email to this alias. The test email arrived flawlessly...
Maybe I didn't wait enough time after unchecking.
I'll try again.
Thank you lane for your answer.
Much appreciated

Oded.

On second thought, although "I never do" could be that while testing I did forget to save ...
