That's definitely true for traditional types of spam -- the kind that offers to sell you prescription drugs, make you rich, or enlarge certain body parts. In those cases, I've found that filtering on keywords ("Has Cialis in the Subject Line") is more effective than trying to block an address.

But there are other kinds of "spam." Over the years, I've gotten on more than a few lists for genuine but unwanted mail -- newsletters, retail offers, and so forth. Sometimes they are impossible to escape by merely unsubscribing. In those cases, setting a rule to just delete messages from those addresses has worked very well.
