Ah! I see ... so he's prolly got another server's MX record in between the fastmail primary server and backup server ... that way if primary server is down, mail will be accepted by this other server and so he'll get it.
And apart from that he's prolly got some way to sycnh these two accounts. Could you explain a bit more on your setup bitequator? (
