I think some of the cat charities have more moggies to look after than they can handle, so maybe you could give one of them a home for a while.

Probably not a kitten but an older house cat, like a rag doll breed - you could be doing the mog a huge favour to get out of the cattery for a while.

I'm not cat expert though, I have two gerbils myself and we also have quite a sweet rat in residence.
