writing links to local files

For many years now I have been running a website on fastmail.fm.
This website lists events. Typically I include a link to the
sites sponsoring these events. For instance, if I am listing a
movie, I will include a link to the theater's website.

Occasionally events of interest are announced by email without a
link to a sponsoring website. In such cases I copy the email
into a text file in my fastmail.fm account and then add a link to
that file to the text on my website listing the event.

I use a folder for this purpose that I call "Abstracts". In the
past the link referred to above -- if memory serves, which it
might not -- might look something like this:
"http://fhapgood.fastmail.fm/Abstracts/xyz.pdf". This worked fine
for many years. Now it seems to have stopped working -- when I
compose a link and then click on it I get the error message "No
Page Found".

This error message is linked to a page called "How to set up a
website," which looks like exactly what I need, but even though I
am following the directions on this page to the best of my poor
ability I cannot seem to write a link that successfully opens the
file of interest.

I am doing something wrong but I cannot figure out what. I looks
to me as if I am doing what the page tells me, but obviously I am
not. There must have some kind of change, because what worked
once no longer does, but what? How do I find it? Where do I begin?
