But why don't you think it reasonable to give the recipients a bit more warning? If someone regularly told me on Saturday to do something the next day, when they could have told me days earlier, I'd be inclined to tell them (rudely) either to take a hike, or (politely) that I couldn't do it because something else was already planned for that time.

You're also not allowing for possible delays in sending the email.
