Arrow Keyboard shortcuts (updated)

The Fastmail Wiki contains the best list of these keyboard shortcuts. If you see any differences, the Wiki list is probably the best reference.

The current (Ajax) Fastmail web interface (not classic) provides the following keyboard shortcuts (enabled in Settings>Preferences). Case is important (most of these are lowercase only). A single message can be highlighted (shaded vertical bar to the left of a checkbox), or one or more messages can be selected (checkboxes).
  • Mail listing screen:
    • *a or 'a (Select ALL conversations in the open mailbox folder.)
    • *n or 'n (Unselect all conversations)
    • g (Find mail folder: produces a search box which allows you to search for a folder name. Enter the first few characters of a folder name. If the folder name has two words you can enter the start of the first or second word. Use up/down arrow keys to select a folder if several are listed, then Enter key or click to select that folder to be opened. Use ESCape key to exit folder search.)
    • c (Compose new message.)
    • d or # (Delete selected message(s))
    • j (Move highlight to next message in list.)
    • k (Move highlight to previous message in list.)
    • m (Move selected message(s) to new folder.)
    • o or Enter key (open highlighted message for reading.)
    • u (Refresh screen.)
    • x (Select/unselect toggle of highlighted message.)
    • y (Archive selected messages, which moves them to the Archive folder.)
    • z (Undo last action, similar to clicking Undo at bottom). Can undo a normal delete, but can't undo a permanent delete.
    • ! (Reports selected message(s) as spam and moves them to the Spam / Junk Mail folder.)
    • . (period or full stop key - marks selected message(s) - follow with r (read), u (unread), p (pinned), or n (unpinned).)
    • % (shift 5 - permanently deletes selected message - can't be undone.)
    • space bar (scroll down one page of messages)
    • shift - space bar (scroll up one page of messages)
    • / (Search.)
  • Message reading screen:
    • a (Reply to all.)
    • r (Reply to sender.)
    • u (Go back up to mailbox listing screen.)
    • d or # (Delete conversation.)
    • % (Permanently delete all messages from any folders in the viewed conversation.)
    • e (Expand threaded conversation to show individual messages.)
    • f (Forward message.)
    • j (Move to next message in list.)
    • k (Move to previous message in list.)
    • shift-L = Displays images from sender which is not in your online Address Book which are blocked
    • m (Move message to new folder.)
    • n = moves highlight to the next message in the conversation
    • p = moves highlight to the previous message in the conversation
    • y (Archive message, which moves it to the Archive folder.)
    • z (Undo last action, similar to clicking Undo at top). Can undo a normal delete, but can't undo a permanent delete.
    • ! (Reports message as spam and moves it to the Spam / Junk Mail folder.)
    • . (period or full stop key - marks message - follow with r (read), u (unread), p (pinned), or n (unpinned).)
    • space bar (scroll down one page)
    • shift - space bar (scroll up one page)
    • / (Search.)
    • The backspace key returns to the previous viewed page in the browser (at least in Firefox). If you accidentally move a message to the incorrect folder, you can use backspace to show the folder it was moved to, but this is a dangerous operation and you can't properly perform any actions until you navigate in the normal fashion.

    • Ctrl-Enter (Send message.)
    • Ctrl-S (Save message to Drafts folder.)

      • Ctrl-B (Bold toggle.)
      • Ctrl-I (Italics toggle.)
      • Ctrl-U (Underline toggle.)
      • Ctrl-shift-5 (subscript toggle.)
      • Ctrl-shift-6 (superscript toggle.)
      • Ctrl-shift-7 (strikethrough toggle.)
  • Address Book screen:
    • j (Move to next contact in list.)
    • k (Move to previous contact in list.)
    • e (Edit.)

    • r (Groups - enter group name to toggle, then use Escape to exit.)
    • n (New contact.)
    • z (Undo last action, similar to clicking Undo at top).
  • Notes screen:
    • j (Move to next note in list)
    • k (Move to previous note in list)
    • n (New note)
    • e (Edit note at highlight)
    • Ctrl-s (Save edited note)
    • # (delete note)
    • z (Undo last delete action)
    • / (Search notes)
