Arrow Checkboxes or reading pane must be in use to see message action icons in Gmail

Go to Settings (the gear icon in the upper right), scroll down, and set "READING PANE" TO "No split".

Now if you select Inbox, you should only see the three following tools above the "Primary .....

It might be a Firefox extension/add-on which is blocking that portion of the screen. Also, some webmail systems allow users to hide buttons or toolbars....

Arrow Problem has been fixed by Fastmail

I received a message from Fastmail support about an hour ago. They have fixed this problem, and I have confirmed that I no longer see "ghost" empty messages (related to Notes) in my account.
