Tracing a yahoo email account
 

Dear Forum,

I believe I posted this yesturday but cant see it so my apolgise if its repeated.

Basically I'm having a problem with someone, who I'm certain is my ex partner sending repeated emails to myself via a fitness forum on Yahoo and also directly to myself via my website address.

The problem I have is that if I respond to this email address I'm certain that this email will be forwarded to my ex partner, and by doing so I would be in breech of an injuction order which had the power of arrest attached.

Does anyone know how or if its possible to see or track the orginal path of the email - I have not sent or responded to these emails for fear of being arrested again but at present neither the Police or Yahoo have been able to assist.

Trying to get some kind of life back, but my life consists of helping 100's of people answer their health and fitness problems via email - but cant currently run the risk.

Desperate for any help or advice.

Sorry for breaking your rules, I did read them but didn't think they were being brocken.

Will ask the Judge for a Court order.

If you have access to the account, change the password and remove the forwarding this should solve the problem.

You can never be sure who is who because anyone can have multiple email addresses.

Trace Headers
 

Look at the Received headers on the message to you. These should be in reverse chronological order (most recent at the top). You can generally trust the topmost headers (your own ISP, etc.). At some point there is a header you don't trust. That header and everything below it may be a forgery.

If someone forges an email to fake their identity, and tricks you into violating a court order by responding to what appears to be legitimate mail, they, not you are the responsible party. Include the entire email with headers in your reply to the suspected email, and there should be no problem in establishing what happened.

I've heard of phishing for profit, phishing to scam credit card numbers. This is the first time I've heard of "phishing for revenge".:)
