Spam check before or after forwarding?

Hi,

I have my own domain hosted at Fastmail.

I have setup an alias so that emails are both stored at Fastmail, and also forwarded to an external email address.

Now I noticed that Fastmail correctly detects spam, and stores it in the spam folder. However, those emails are still forwarded.

The forward is apparently done before the spamcheck. Is there a way to change this?

Thanks!

If you are doing the forwarding using the alias "Also send to all contacts in" setting then, yes, the message is redirected before reaching the Sieve script so no spam checking is done (reference FastMail's Email forwarding doc).

If you want spam checking done before redirecting a copy of an incoming message then create an explicit rule to do it and use "Send a copy to" in the rule to do the forwarding.

I would try putting the forwarding rule in the rules Sieve code after the spam section (### 3 in my sieve) and make a rule to forward emails only if the spam score (X-Spam-score) is less then the number you are using for spam filtering.

Others might have better methods they can share.

Isn't that what I just suggested?

Ah, posting "overlap" (that's what I call it). Been there done that in forums too. I apologize gardenweed for my followup post.
