How to add a new provider to the specific provider forums?

Besides FastMail, runbox and gmail

Little chance.

This forum seems a little abandoned :( Outdated software, outdated copyright notice... It would be good if someone took over this with a new attitude

Edwin, the site admin and owner is the only person that can do it. Having said that, it's very unlikely to happen.

I've been thinking about this recently too.

Is there an extant more modern (and maintained) alternative to emaildiscussions.com?

Would enough of the current and most frequent members of emaildiscussions.com shift to an alternative if one was available?

Would an 'emaildiscussions' mastodon server be a good alternative?

The obvious alternative is Email Questions, and it is running up to date software.

The only way that could work is if interested EMD forum members check out Email Questions, register to use, and actively participate.

BTW, for those that don't know, a few years ago (in 2013) I set up a EmailDiscussions Twitter account, when there was a problem accessing the forum, because I didn't want to lose touch with other EMD forum members if the forum disappeared.

Reddit?
There is a already an Fastmail community.

Thanks both, for opening my eyes to several channels I was totally unaware of.
(I see there is already a ProtonMail reddit too.)

if there was enough interest, i can arrange for an alternative discussion board to be set up?

EMD is long overdue a lick of paint and mobile friendly web site etc.

Emailquestions also seems to be abandoned?

I'd be interested. Maybe using Discourse?

I could (and have once or thrice already..) twist my arm into thinking about creating an 'emd clone type' of forum. When I start contemplation though, the ever increase of details becomes astounding.. I mean I've run forums and been a moderator on others before, but I don't know if I want to do it again..

I apply for a moderation role if anyone goes ahead with it

Not abandoned. Google naturally pushed EQ to be more of a one time help desk Q&A type forum while the members here tend to be more regular and dedicated posters.

I'm still around : )

Save yourself some pain and pick a new topic.

If you find something interesting I may be able to help.

Ok.
