Thunderbird FM IMAP and Inbox subfolders

Is it possible with Thunderbird and IMAP and FM to set up subfolders under the INBOX.
I don't think it used to be, but I was/am hoping maybe that has changed.

If I right click my INBOX folder in Thunderbird I can see an option "new folder". For me this creates a new folder just fine (at server side)....?

I've a standard setup in TB, with all folders (including Sent, Draft etc) being subfolders of INBOX. Is that the same for you, or do we differ here already? Cause for me it creates a nested folder...

For me it looks like this (it's in Dutch, but you'll get the point...) -->

And after creating a new nested map -->

my is definitely different

i remember that when setting up, there was some problem with double (duplicated) tree if you set up for nesting under INBOX. i followed set up instructions from FM.

I can't see your picture, you pasted the url of your session at FM, not a direct link...

try it now

SvLSvLSvL 16 Jan 2009 07:21 AM

Yes, link works now. I see what you mean. Perhaps someone having the same setup can say something useful about this? For me right click on inbox and "new folder" does the trick... Perhaps because in my setup I can subscribe/unsubscribe the INBOX (while you can't) it works as any other map..? See -->

Well this thread discusses my problem (especially 2nd page) and after playing with the INBOX. or no INBOX. screwed up my folders so much I ended up removing and reinstalling Fastmail into TB.
http://www.emaildiscussions.com/show...ird+inbox+root

While playing with this to INBOX or not to INBOX (in IMAP server directory box in advanced settings of server settings) I rediscovered my ORIGINAL way back when issue with nesting folders under INBOX. What I was trying to do back then was get a similar look as with OE and maybe only when using POP3, that INBOX, SENT, TRASH etc. are on top level and you can nest ALL of you email folders under INBOX.

Yes, your problem seems to be related to that thread. I think this post http://www.emaildiscussions.com/show...5&postcount=27 shows the two possible ways of configuring the INBOX level very clear (see pictures there). My setup is the second one and I have no problems using TB and creating subfolders using TB. Maybe you should give this setup a try....? Or contacting one of the people in that thread as they seem to be unable to find this one :D
